Welcome To Thrive In Five

I’m Dr. Dave with Utah State University Extension. As a professor, extension specialist, and family life educator I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world and give over 500 trainings and presentations.

It’s been an incredible journey presenting to audiences ranging from the United Nations to workshops for the homeless to assemblies for high schools, and from lunch and learns at workplaces to keynote speeches at huge conferences, and even monthly appearances on Fox 13 TV.

I’ve had the opportunity to present on all kinds of family topics, including parenting, marriage, stepfamilies, balancing work and family, divorce education, suicide prevention, and even mental health, happiness, and positivity. I think one of the highlights for me was presenting a TEDx talk in Florida, for sure. It was an incredible experience.

As a family scholar it’s been quite the ride, conducting my own studies and discovering some of the key principles and practices for strong marriages and families. Study after study shows that the two things that matter most in people’s lives, is their family relationships and personal joy, meaning, and happiness. Family relationships also happen to be one of the biggest stressors in people’s lives, when things don’t go well.

So I’ve spent the last two decades learning from the best books and research, incredible mentors and scholars and most importantly, extraordinary lessons from my amazing wife, four children, and my loving parents and siblings. For me, the greatest joys in life come as a husband and dad—I absolutely love being their dad. And I’m on a mission to share the very best research and tips to help families in their journeys, because these journeys are not easy.

I’m super excited to launch a new series of videos called Dr. Dave’s Thrive in 5, where I share principles, practices, and science-backed happy hacks in 5 minutes or less. I want to provide powerful insights for busy people and parents in short segments. The focus will be on practical tips and resources to improve our personal life journey, our parenting journey, and our marriage or relationship journey.

I hope people will join me on this journey to learn more about becoming the very best person, parent, and partner you can become. So come join the journey.
